The National Insurance and Social Security Service is inviting parents and guardians of children and adults who have been diagnosed with disabilities such as Multiple Sclerosis, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and Autism, to register for the Special Needs Grant and Non-contributory Pension. Registration runs from Wednesday, September 25, 2024 to Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Frank Walcott Building, Culloden Road, St. Michael from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.
To obtain an NIS number and to complete the process, you are required to submit the birth certificate and identification card of the child/ward, along with the parent’s identification card. If you are not the parent, an affidavit, letter of guardianship or a letter granting permission to conduct business on behalf of the child/ward is required. In addition, you must submit a medical certificate of diagnosis.
If you are the applicant and you do not have an NIS number, you are required to submit your birth certificate, national identification card, marriage certificate (if applicable) and divorce decree (if applicable).
