NIS RESPONDS TO CHARGE OF NON-PAYMENT OF SOME BENEFITS TO FORMER EMPLOYEES OF STATUTORY CORPORATIONS

The National Insurance Office is responding to an article which was published in the Daily Nation on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, entitled Charge against NIS – Franklyn: Department not paying some benefits. In the article the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) is being accused of “not furnishing several laid-off or severed employees of statutory corporations with their unemployment benefits”.

Acting Director Jennifer Hunte said “the National Insurance Office remains committed to the provision of benefits for all eligible and qualifying claimants”.

“If you are a former employee of a Statutory Board, and you have paid your contributions at the rate which provides coverage for unemployment and sickness benefits and your claim has not been honoured, please contact us at telephone number 467-4647, or e-mail address: statutoryemployees.queries@bginis.gov.bb and provide the following data to facilitate a review:

Name, NIS number, the period of claim, type of claim and your contact details (telephone number and e-mail address).”

The NIS thanks you for your cooperation!
