The National Insurance and Social Security Service (NISSS) is pleased to confirm the introduction of the Paternity Benefit, which became effective on June 1, 2025.
The NISSS is accepting application forms from eligible employed and self-employed fathers, whose children were born on or after this date.
Fathers are encouraged to collect and complete the Paternity Benefit application form, available at the NISSS office located at the Frank Walcott Building, Culloden Road, St. Michael.
Eligibility for Paternity Benefit
To apply, fathers must provide the following:
- A copy of the Certificate of Confinement, or
- Certified copy of the child’s Birth Certificate showing the father’s name
- Certified copy of Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
- NIS Number
- Barbados Identification Card
The Paternity Benefit is payable for a period of three weeks and must be claimed within six months of the child’s birth.
