    Funeral Grant

When is a funeral grant payable?

It is payable when an insured person who dies was receiving or eligible for sickness benefit, maternity benefit, unemployment benefit, invalidity benefit or old age contributory benefit.

This grant is also given when the spouse of an insured person dies, if the insured person would be entitled to the grant if he/she had died instead. If death is caused by an employment injury or an occupational disease, the grant is also payable.

Who receives the grant when an insured person dies?

The person who has paid or is likely to pay the funeral costs.

How much do you receive?

The grant is $1,950 but it is not payable if the deceased person was entitled to Non-Contributory Old Age Pension unless:

  1. the deceased had received or was eligible to receive an invalidity grant or an old age contributory grant or
  2. was the spouse of an insured person
