The following activities were being undertaken as part of the public education and consultative process on Pension Reform:
Focus Groups - to obtain some indication of the target groups' understanding and perception of the current pension scheme, concerns and initial preferences re pension reform as well as their response to communications concepts and materials for the campaign.
Opinion Polls - by telephone (scientific survey), by questionnaire and on-line. These polls sought to measure preferences of the public with regard to the options for pension reform.
Meetings/seminars with stakeholders - these included Barbados Employers' Confederation (BEC), Chamber of Commerce, Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados, Barbados Association of Retired Persons (BARP), the Opposition Democratic Labour Party, the Small Business Association, the media, employee groups etc. These sessions were intended to facilitate consultation between the NIS and stakeholders, allowing dialogue and indications of reform option preferences.
A slogan - to get the key message across to the public.
A logo - to the get the public to pay attention to pension reform.
A flyer - to disseminate basic information on pension reform to contributors
A booklet, video and CD -ROM - produced specifically for employers on the need, options, and issues related to pension reform.
A jingle - to help draw public attention to pension reform and reinforce the key message.
A "Giggurd and Boo" production (by GIS) - to enhance understanding of the need for reform and the options.
Public Service Announcements (PSAs) (television & radio) - to inform the public of the need for pension and the reform options.
Website - to provide an avenue for the general public to get information on pension reform, state their preferences on the options and provide other feedback.
Press Ads - to inform readers on the pension reform options and related issues.
A series of radio programmes - to further educate the public on the issues.
Talk show/call in appearances - to allow dialogue with the public, share information and provide opportunity for analysis and feedback.
